In the first year of Vs. System, Upper Deck R&D Manager Jeff Donais made a promise to include the team from his home country of Canada . . . eventually. Well, eventually has come, and we’ve decided to make good on that promise in Marvel Universe!
I’d like to introduce Alpha Flight! One of the main reasons we decided to include Alpha Flight in this set is that we wanted to include some of the “Initiative” teams that came about in the wake of the Civil War. Omega Flight was one of those teams, but they had such a tie-in to Alpha Flight (and other Canadian super-teams) that we decided to meld them together and make Omega Flight the sub-team of Alpha Flight.

The main theme of Alpha Flight is to play as many plot twists as possible. Weapon Omega will turn your opponent’s plot twist against him or her, and as you’ll see tomorrow, they may even come to haunt your opponent even more than expected! Alpha Flight will manipulate the blue cards in interesting and challenging ways; however, they won’t be a full-sized team, so you’ll need to pair them up creatively to get their full effect. Don’t be surprised if they turn up allied with some unusual teams!
Billy will do more to extrapolate how Alpha and Omega Flight fit into Marvel Universe, along with Michael Pointer’s tragic connection to both the beginning and the end of this team.
This being the penultimate week of previews (Marvel Universe will be released on June 10), we are entering the territory of legacy, generic, and “boutique” cards that have been chosen to fill out the set. To really give the feeling of encompassing the entire Marvel Universe, there might be some characters or entities that you might have forgotten about!
As a bonus preview, I’m going to give you another piece in the Illuminati / Dr. Strange legend puzzle, Essence of Zom!

Plot twist search effects are rare and are usually relegated to expensive costs like Power and Wealth. This one only requires you to play it the turn Dr. Strange enters play—it’s just that easy! You’ll find Essence of Zom to be extremely powerful in the Illuminati deck, with a plethora of power plot twists available to you like The Elektra Situation or even The Infinity Gauntlet. On top of all that, I’m sure you might find a way to fit Dr. Strange and his essences into an Alpha Flight deck with all their plot-twist shenanigans.
That’s all from me this week, but there are tremors in the Vs. Force elsewhere . . .
Join me next week for some unaffiliated goodness . . . and the announcement of the new Vs. Hero of the Month!
Good games,
TBS
